Probe calibration isn't working. What should I do?

Purpose of Calibration

First, remember the purpose of calibration. The handheld SonoSimulator probe uses a motion sensor to track your hand movements, which controls the virtual probe on screen. The purpose of calibration is to align your handheld probe with the virtual probe. If – after a bit of scanning – you notice that your handheld probe and virtual probe are pointing in different directions, recalibrating should help resolve this issue. More information on this topic is available in the How to Use the SonoSimulator® orientation course.

Calibration Training within the Probe Tutorial

With that in mind, if you still believe that calibration isn't working correctly, we strongly recommend going through the Probe Tutorial within the SonoSimulator. This tutorial will walk you through how to properly calibrate and how SonoSim scanning is intended to work.

You can access the tutorial from any case within the SonoSimulator by clicking the (question) button in the bottom toolbar.

Restarting Probe Setup

If you've been using the SonoSimulator software for over an hour and begin to experience scanning issues, we recommend restarting Probe Setup. You can access Probe Setup from any case within the SonoSimulator by clicking the (question) button in the bottom toolbar.

Probe Setup is only available for probes received after September 2021.

Scanning Position Recommendation

If you're scanning a structure that requires your probe to be held horizontally (e.g., RUQ, transvaginal window), we recommend anchoring the probe's footprint against a surface, such as your hand.

This will help keep the probe pivot point at the foot, like a real ultrasound probe.

For an easier way to freeze an image during scanning, tap the 'F' key. This is often useful when both hands are used in scanning.
